Rainfall has been fair and favourable for farming, with weeding and spraying completed in February. Stable rainfall from January to March has created conditions for high yield expectations.
The SAZ maize seed that was distributed to OTG farmers has proved to be a very good seed because of how the crop has performed. For example, Norman Tonga planted our SAZ maize crop early in November and we found that his maize was almost ready when we paid him a visit in March. His maize looks very healthy and he said there will be a lot of food this year because of favourable rains as well as good seed planted. See picture of Norman Tonga with his maize crop.
Most of soya beans crop have produced reasonable quantities of pods, showing some great signs of good harvest, Maize and sunflower crop is looking great and most farmers will have more than enough maize for consumption this year, We are really thankful to the Lord for the good rains and healthy crops this season.
